Soul
Mates
Come
sail with me and roll upon the sea;
To ancient lands and distant we will glide,
Where I will pledge my love alone to thee,
And oceans may not keep me from your side.
Sometimes
we'll stand together at the rail,
And 'neath a burning sun, I'll go aloft;
With you to steer, I'll trim a flapping sail,
And climb back down as evening winds come soft.
When
tossed by waves and challenged by the gale,
And angry-faced retorts are what we choose,
We'll hold a steady course and man the bail;
Still steering, though we scream at what we lose.
Through
tempest into waters calm we'll ride,
Our craft sedately skates before the breeze;
And into glassy harbors we will slide,
And know we have survived the angry seas.
With
awe we'll gaze on rock-strewn cliff and shore,
And watch the sea-birds feed in quiet coves;
Remembering days with battened hatch and door,
And feeling ever stronger in our love.
So
come with me and live upon the sea,
And floating soft together we will glide;
And I will pledge my heart alone to thee,
While gently sailing on the evening tide.
